An interesting question that begs another
- what do we mean by 'best'? One person's best deal may not be the same
as another person's. Add to this that there are as many subjective
(personal) determinants of policy choice as there are objective ones
then the question becomes somewhat complex, especially when you
consider that even objective considerations can be challenged.
In our view, a useful working definition of the 'best deal' is 'the
optimal balance between cost and cover'. This allows for personal
determinations, given that people vary as too how much they want in
their cover and how impotant cost savings are to them.
Implict in our definition is that in most cases, the cheapest quote of
thousands - such as might be identified by a price comparison site - is
unlikely to meet our 'optimal balance' criterion; in that, by going
excessively budget in price, you are effectively compromising too far
on the cover.
Of course, even those policies that do appear to offer that optimal
balance can be discounted and these, therefore, would be especially
attractive if approaching your car insurance purchase form the most
prudent point of view.
Counter-intuitively for some, because our definiton of 'best' builds in
this quality component, it is logical to start our discount car
insurance search not with a price comparison site but where this
quality criterion is autonatically present. And that is by checking out
the cover offered by the leading car insurance providers directly.

leading car insurance providers, it becomes a relatively simple matter
to identify a good provider on the basis of the associated cover. This
site will also provide information in relation to all the current
discounted deals.
It might be argued, of course, that such a way of getting cover
precludes a proper price comparison such as might easily be conducted
via a price comparison site. However, we are in pursuit of the best
deal which is - as reviewed above - not the cheapest. We do have to
factor in quality and an efficient way to do so is to go direct.
Nonetheless, price comsiderations are also part of our definiton of
best, so how can we be sure that we are getting the best price if we go
direct?
The answer is that if price comparison sites only compared like
policies, their spread of prices, if we look only at the largest brands
- would be tiny. Thus, price tends to - within acceptable limits - take
care of itself.
